Texas Man Arrested for Threatening NYC Mayoral Candidate
Plano Police arrested Jeremy Fistel at his Texas home after a U.S. Marshals alert. Fistel is accused of sending four threatening messages to New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani's office.
The Threats:
The NYPD traced the threats, originating in June, back to Fistel. While there's no evidence of an actual plot, authorities emphasize the seriousness of all threats.
The Arrest:
Plano Police cooperated with the NYPD, arresting Fistel without incident at his residence. Police officials highlight the importance of taking all threats seriously, regardless of the platform (social media, email, etc.).
The Aftermath:
Fistel pleaded not guilty to 22 counts of terroristic threats and hate crimes. He was released on bail and is ordered to have no contact with Mamdani, with a court date set for November.
Related News:
This arrest follows other recent cases involving threats against public figures. For instance, Robert King was arrested in McKinney for threatening ICE agents and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. The Texas Education Agency also reported 281 complaints against teachers making negative comments about Charlie Kirk's death. These instances further underscore the growing concern over online hate speech and threats.
