Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani launched a five-borough tour to highlight what he sees as President Trump's detrimental impact on New York City. Mamdani argues that Trump's policies have harmed the city, citing the removal of over one million New Yorkers from Medicaid, cuts to food stamp funding, and slashes to housing programs. He stated, “We know that there is no borough that will be free from Trump’s cruelty.”

This tour comes as Mamdani attempts to establish himself as the strongest anti-Trump candidate in the upcoming election. He criticizes his opponents – former Governor Andrew Cuomo, Mayor Eric Adams, and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa – for their alleged ties to Trump.

Mamdani called Cuomo's recent phone call with Trump “a betrayal of New Yorkers,” referencing reports detailing the conversation.

Cuomo, running as an independent, has attempted to distance himself from the accusations, stating he has fought against Trump. However, he's also described Mayor Adams as a “wholly owned subsidiary” of Trump, a claim Adams' spokesperson rebutted, asserting that a mayor should collaborate, not wage war, against the president.

Interestingly, Sliwa, the Republican nominee, has urged Trump to stay out of the race, suggesting Trump's involvement would inadvertently boost Mamdani's image as the anti-Trump candidate. Trump, however, has labeled Mamdani a “Communist Lunatic.”

The article also touches on the endorsement Mamdani has received from some prominent Democrats, and the subsequent attacks from Cuomo, who criticized Mamdani's rent-stabilized apartment while highlighting a proposal for a new law to limit high-earners from accessing rent-stabilized housing.

Mamdani, however, views Cuomo's attacks as petty and vindictive.
