NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch further emphasized the removal of over 2,200 illegal guns in 2025 alone, highlighting their ongoing commitment to reducing crime.
Key Figures:
- Shootings: 264 (Previous low: 267 in 2018)
- Homicides: 112 (Previous low: 113 in 2017 and 2014)
This downward trend continues a pattern established in 2024, which saw an overall 3% reduction in index crimes (murder, robbery, burglary, grand larceny, and motor vehicle theft) and a 5.4% reduction in subway crime.
The NYPD's aggressive summer violence reduction plan aims to maintain these historic safety gains.
