NYC Aesthetician Busted for Counterfeit Botox

A New York City aesthetician, Joey Grant Luther, has been arrested for allegedly injecting patients with counterfeit Botox purchased from China. Luther, owner of JGL Aesthetics in Hell's Kitchen, faces charges of wire fraud, smuggling, and other crimes related to the import and distribution of misbranded and counterfeit drugs.

The Botox was not FDA-approved, and Luther allegedly continued treatments even after patients reported adverse reactions, including double vision, heart palpitations, and weakness. One patient was diagnosed with Botulism toxin after receiving an injection.

The investigation began after a patient's serious adverse reaction. Customs and Border Protection intercepted packages addressed to JGL Aesthetics containing large quantities of counterfeit Botox. Luther could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. This case follows a CDC and FDA investigation into similar incidents across multiple states.

This incident highlights the serious risks associated with purchasing and using unregulated cosmetic products. Always ensure your providers are licensed and use FDA-approved products.
