Texas Man Arrested for Threatening NYC Mayoral Candidate
A Texas man, Jeremy Fistel, faces 22 charges, including making terroristic threats as a hate crime, for allegedly threatening New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. The Queens District Attorney's office announced that Fistel, 44, left multiple threatening voicemails and a written message between June and July.

Fistel was arrested in Texas on September 11th and pleaded not guilty.
Mamdani, the Democratic nominee and frontrunner in the mayoral race, has gained national attention for his progressive proposals. The threats come amidst heightened national tensions following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and with the UN General Assembly taking place in NYC.
Mayor Adams commented on the threats, noting the irony given Mamdani's past criticisms of the NYPD and his current request for a police detail.
This incident highlights the serious concerns surrounding political threats and hate crimes, particularly during this election cycle and high-profile events.
