Amnon Shemi, the victim, regularly posts flyers about the Israeli hostage situation. He stated that while posting near Lexington Avenue and 68th Street, a group of young men shouted "Free Palestine" before attacking him. He expressed surprise that this hadn't happened sooner, citing the escalating war in Gaza.
Rise in Antisemitic Crimes
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reports a significant increase in antisemitic incidents, including harassment, since 2013. These incidents highlight a broader trend of rising antisemitism in the city.
The Shemis, whose cousin was also caught in the October 7, 2023 attacks, are undeterred, and Amnon stated he'll continue posting the flyers.
This incident underscores the ongoing concern of antisemitic violence in NYC.
