FDNY Investigation: Accidental Cause

The FDNY confirmed the fire was accidental, caused by cooking oil igniting nearby combustible materials. While initially appearing to start as a trash fire, it rapidly spread. The fire, thankfully, was contained within an hour. Though a stall called Seapark, known for its lobster rolls, was heavily impacted, the damage to surrounding areas was minimal, with only slight damage to adjacent kiosks and heat impingement on the nearby ice skating rink roof.

Aftermath and Response

Despite the intense fire, there were no reported injuries. Bryant Park officials expressed gratitude for the FDNY's swift response and announced that the ice rink and most of the holiday market shops were quickly reopened.

This incident occurred just eleven days after a separate fire at the Herald Square holiday market devastated eighteen shops.

The FDNY Chief stated that while the two fires are similar, he doesn't believe they are connected, citing them as mere coincidences.
