A new book, "Shop Cats of New York," celebrates the feline residents of NYC's small businesses. Author Tamar Arslanian and photographer Andrew Marttila journeyed across the five boroughs, capturing the charm of these adopted shop cats who enjoy 24/7 pampering and customer interaction.
Meet Georgie, a beloved customer favorite at Mooshoes on the Lower East Side, who even made a return appearance from the 2016 edition of the book!
The book highlights the unique bond between these cats and the small businesses they call home, showcasing the heartwarming stories behind their adoptions and daily lives. Arslanian initially felt sympathy for the shop cats, but soon realized they lead surprisingly fortunate lives, enjoying constant interaction with people.
Interestingly, bodega cats were excluded from the book to ensure only well-cared-for felines were featured. The book is a testament to the special relationship between New Yorkers and their animal companions, offering a heartwarming look into the city's unique culture.
