  • Halloween Saturday: sunny with a high near 61; around 57 to 60 degrees during the Village Halloween Parade on Sixth Avenue, which starts at 7 p.m. No rain is in the forecast.

  • Clocks fall back at 2 a.m. Sunday. Sunset Sunday is around 4:52 p.m., according to NY1.
  • NY1 says Friday will mark 13 straight dry days, the longest dry streak in two years. NWS warned of elevated fire-spread risk Friday in the Lower Hudson Valley.

New York City's big weekend, with Halloween on Saturday and the marathon on Sunday, looks dry from start to finish. The National Weather Service forecast for the city, updated Thursday afternoon, shows little to no chance of rain from Friday through Monday, with a warm Friday, a cooler, sunny Saturday and mild, nearly calm conditions on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Day by day

  • Friday, Oct. 30: sunny, with a high near 69. It will be breezy, with west winds of 9 to 15 mph and gusts up to about 26 mph, NWS says. NY1 puts the high near 70, roughly 10 degrees above average for the end of October, after a morning near 50.
  • Friday night: mostly clear and cooler, with a low around 51.
  • Saturday, Oct. 31 (Halloween): sunny, with a high near 61 and a light north wind.
  • Saturday night: mostly cloudy, with a low around 49.
  • Sunday, Nov. 1 (marathon day): partly sunny, with a high near 63 and winds around 5 mph.
  • Monday, Nov. 2: mostly sunny, with a high near 68.

Halloween night and the Village parade

The Village Halloween Parade steps off on Sixth Avenue at 7 p.m. Saturday. NWS hourly data shows about 60 degrees at 7 p.m., partly cloudy and nearly calm, slipping to about 57 by 10 p.m. as clouds thicken, according to the NWS hourly forecast. NY1 expects 55 to 58 degrees for the parade and will carry it live at 8 p.m., according to its Thursday evening forecast. Trick-or-treaters should plan on a light jacket after sunset.

Marathon Sunday

Conditions look favorable for runners. NWS hourly figures show about 50 to 51 degrees at 7 and 8 a.m., about 55 by 10 a.m., and 59 to 62 degrees from noon into mid-afternoon, with winds of 5 mph or less and partly sunny skies. NY1 forecasts temperatures in the 40s for the start of the race and calls the day cool and dry. Spectators should dress for a chilly morning. Expect bridge and street closures across all five boroughs; see our guide to Sunday's marathon closures.

Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, so clocks go back an hour. NY1 says sunrise Sunday will be near 6:24 a.m. and sunset around 4:52 p.m. The earlier darkness is the reason for the city's Dusk and Darkness traffic safety push.

A long dry spell

Friday will be the 13th straight day without rain, the longest dry streak in two years, according to NY1. North of the city, NWS issued a special weather statement warning that dry fuels, northwest gusts of 20 to 30 mph and low humidity will raise the risk of fire spread in the Lower Hudson Valley on Friday late morning and afternoon. The statement covers Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties. Officials ask people to be careful with anything that could spark a fire and to put cigarettes out fully.

Looking ahead, NY1 expects a sunny, mild Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3, with a high near 70.
