How to delete your account

You can do this yourself, on the website or in the Android and iOS app. It takes about a minute and it is immediate.

1. Open the NewYorkNews.app app or go to newyorknews.app, then sign in.
2. Go to Account and choose Privacy & security.
3. Choose Delete account.
4. Type DELETE to confirm and, if you sign in with an email and password, enter your password. Then choose Delete my account.

If you aren’t signed in, you’ll be asked to sign in first and then taken straight to the confirmation step. Deleting your account can’t be undone.

What is deleted

As soon as you confirm, we permanently delete:

• Your account: name, email address, password (or the link to your Google sign-in) and every signed-in session.
• Your profile photo.
• Your preferences: home neighborhood, followed lines and neighborhoods, and notification settings.
• Your saved stories, saved events and event RSVPs.
• Your Community posts, comments and likes, including the photos you attached to posts.
• Your notifications and the push-notification tokens of your devices.
• The records of emails we sent to your address.

What is kept

• Events you submitted. A published event is a public listing, so it stays up without a link to your account. The details you entered for it (organizer name, organizer website and its photo) stay with it; the organizer email is visible only to our editors. Ask us to remove an event and we will.
• Website and app usage statistics. Page views recorded in Google Analytics are not linked to your account, so deleting your account doesn’t change them.

Can’t sign in?

If you no longer have access to your account, email support@newyorknews.app from the address you registered with, with the subject “Delete my NewYorkNews.app account”. We’ll confirm it’s you and delete the account and the data listed above within 30 days.
