Āzar, a fast-casual Persian street grill from chef Soroosh Golbabae, opens Saturday, Nov. 7, at 740 Driggs Avenue (at South Second Street) in Williamsburg. Eater NY reported the debut Friday evening; Greenpointers earlier flagged the same weekend opening in the former Fan Fried Rice Bar storefront.
Golbabae, who worked on the opening teams at Prospect Heights’ Sofreh and Bushwick’s Eyval and later led Park Slope’s Sawa, is building the menu around loghmeh — home-style Persian “perfect bites” served in lavash flatbreads baked in an on-site pita oven. Eater’s priced lineup includes ghormeh sabzi with beef cheeks ($12), koobideh of grilled ground lamb and beef ($12), chicken fesenjoon through the spring ($9) and vegetarian kashk bademjoon ($9), plus tahchin with zereshk sauce ($8) and drinks such as saffron sharbat and doogh ($5).
The room is about 350 square feet with roughly 10 seats, designed by Roudiani.Harelson with stainless-steel and amber glass details. Golbabae partnered with Fardad Zabetian. Planned hours are noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, Eater said. The restaurant’s site at azar.nyc lists the Driggs Avenue address and a Saturday, Nov. 7, opening.
