Step Into the Phantom's Lair: Masquerade’s Spooky Halloween Soirée Returns

A Night of Terror and Elegance Under the Chandelier

The immersive Off-Broadway sensation Masquerade is bringing back its most anticipated annual event: Le Bal Macabre, the second annual After-Hours Halloween Soirée. Following the show’s performances on October 31, patrons are invited to descend into the Phantom's lair for an exclusive evening of music and live performances beneath the famed chandelier.

While tickets are available for show attendees, the production is also selling soirée-only tickets, ensuring that even those not seeing the full performance can join the macabre festivities. This year, the dress code has received a slight but striking update: guests are asked to wear black specifically, moving away from the usual allowance of white and silver. The atmosphere remains one of extravagance, with masks encouraged (and provided if needed) to complete the look.

Immersive Theater Like No Other

Since opening on September 29 at 218 W. 57th Street (the former Lee's Art Shop), Masquerade has redefined the theatrical experience. Modeled after the groundbreaking Sleep No More, this production plunges audiences directly into the plot of Gaston Leroux’s novel and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical. Visitors trace the steps of the Opera Ghost as he terrorizes the performers and management, while uncovering his obsessive mentorship of soprano Christine Daae.

The venue, designed to replicate the Paris catacombs, offers a fully ADA accessible environment. To ensure safety within the intricate set design, high heels are discouraged. The production runs through January 31, 2027, having recently extended for its sixth time.

Star-Studded Cast and Creative Vision

With six audience groups of about 60 people per night, the cast size is significantly larger than traditional Broadway productions. The role of the Phantom is shared by a rotating roster including Nick Cartell, Quentin Earl Darrington, Austin Colby, Derrick Davis, Nicholas Edwards, Ryan Vona, and Kyle Scatliffe. The Christine role features talents like Claire Leyden, Haile Ferrier, and Kaley Ann Voorhees, while Travis Keith Battle, Joe Caskey, and Dan Hoy take on the role of Raoul.
