A murder investigation is underway in New York City's Central Park after a woman in her 60s was found dead with multiple stab wounds. The incident occurred on Sunday morning, prompting a swift response from the NYPD.
The Discovery
Around 9:43 a.m. ET, a 911 caller reported discovering the body near a walking trail. Officers who arrived at the scene found the victim unresponsive with visible trauma and stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The location of the discovery was identified as being off a walking trail near East Drive and East 74th Street.
Suspect in Custody
Police have arrested Jonathan Robles, 36, who now faces serious charges including murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to an NYPD spokesperson speaking to ABC News, the identity of the 63-year-old victim has been withheld pending an autopsy by the New York City Medical Examiner's Office. Investigators are currently working to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
No Known Connection
At this time, police state there is no known relationship between the suspect and the victim. Authorities are continuing their investigation to piece together the events that led to this tragic loss of life in one of NYC's most iconic public spaces.
