Taquería El Chato opens its biggest shop yet at 347 Bedford Ave. in Williamsburg
The Michelin Bib Gourmand taco shop from Greenpoint fully opened its third location, on the corner of South Fourth Street, on Nov. 6. It is twice the size of the others, with two kitchens and room to sit.

- Taquería El Chato fully opened its Williamsburg shop at 347 Bedford Ave., at South Fourth Street, at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, co-owner Chris Reyes told Greenpointers.
- At about 1,400 square feet, it is roughly double the size of the original Greenpoint and West Village shops, with two kitchens and a center island for eating standing up, Reyes told Whatnow.
- Eater calls the Greenpoint original a Bib Gourmand-designated taco shop; carved trompo al pastor is the best-seller, on house-made corn tortillas.
- The space replaces Roka, a Mediterranean bowls spot, and a Park Slope location is in the works for next year.

One of North Brooklyn's most talked-about taco counters now has a bigger home. Taquería El Chato, the Greenpoint shop that Eater describes as Bib Gourmand-designated, fully opened its Williamsburg location at 347 Bedford Ave., on the corner of South Fourth Street, at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, co-owner Chris Reyes told Greenpointers.
The corner space was previously Roka, a Mediterranean spot selling bowls, salads and dips. El Chato's first shop opened in 2024 at 620 Manhattan Ave. in Greenpoint, in the former home of Screamer's Pizza, Greenpointers reported. The owners, Reyes and partners Paulette Ramirez and Gerardo Alcaraz, also run a West Village location.
Bigger, with two kitchens
The Williamsburg shop is about 1,400 square feet, roughly double the 700-square-foot Greenpoint and West Village shops, Reyes told Whatnow. "This space fits three to four times the number of people our other stores can accommodate," he said, with an island in the center for anyone who wants to eat standing up.
It also has two kitchens, so the team can handle all of its prep on site, and a more refined look that future locations will share, Reyes said. Friends and family got a preview in late October before the full public opening.
What to order
- Taco al pastor: Reyes's pick for first-timers, with marinated pork belly and flank steak on a house-made corn tortilla, topped with cilantro, onions, salsa verde and salsa roja, he told Whatnow. Carved trompo is the best-seller at the original, according to Eater NY.
- Other tacos: chorizo, mushroom or lengua, served generously in tin containers, Eater reported.
- Quesadillas: flour tortillas filled with melted Chihuahua cheese.
