On the last day before New Yorkers pick a governor, Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul and her Republican challenger, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, are chasing very different voters. Polls are open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3; there is no early voting on Monday.
Hochul: the city, and her allies
Hochul was scheduled to campaign Monday morning at a Harlem subway station as she tries to boost turnout in Democratic strongholds, ABC7 New York reported. On Sunday, the last day of early voting, she started at an Upper West Side diner, appeared with Council Speaker Julie Menin and then watched the Buffalo Bills at Murphy's Sports Bar in Astoria with Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, according to ABC7 and City & State.
It was the first time this year that Ocasio-Cortez campaigned in person with the governor, City & State reported; the two had appeared together last month at an official event on data centers in the Hudson Valley. "I think this is the example of how we must come together to win," Ocasio-Cortez told reporters.
Hochul's pitch has centered on lowering living costs through more housing and on a nearly $4 billion investment in public safety, ABC7 reported. She struck a cautious note about the finish: "I have the ball in my hand, running toward the end zone, but we're not there yet."
Blakeman: a statewide blitz
Blakeman spent Sunday in Northport with Rep. Nick LaLota and Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine and on Monday planned a statewide tour starting in Bethpage, with stops in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Binghamton before ending the day in Manhattan, ABC7 reported. City & State said his Sunday blitz ended with a rally in the Capital Region.
He has accused Hochul of a "secret pact" with Mamdani to raise taxes, a claim Hochul rejects, and says he would lower taxes and energy costs. He has promised to sign an executive order on Jan. 1 declaring New York is "no longer a sanctuary state," ABC7 reported; Hochul has said the state is not a sanctuary for people who commit crimes. Blakeman dismissed polls showing him behind, telling voters, "We're right there, we are neck and neck."
The numbers going in

- Party split: Democrats outpaced Republicans during early voting, though Republicans historically are more likely to vote on Election Day, ABC7 reported.
