Brooklyn FAM Flagship Festival: Shine Your Light
About this event
Brooklyn FAM's sixth annual flagship festival takes over the Prospect Park Boathouse on Sunday, Nov. 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year's free, family-friendly edition celebrates Indigenous voices from North, Central and South America, including Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape, Shinnecock, Diné (Navajo), Taíno, Colombian, Mexican and Guatemalan Maya traditions. Expect live music and dance, workshops, a community drumming circle, craft-making and public art. The Red Blanket Singers lead Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape drum and dance sessions at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Ballet Folklorico Juvenil de Brooklyn performs at noon. The festival is presented with the Prospect Park Alliance, the American Indian Community House and the New York Immigration Coalition. Entry is free with an RSVP; food and drinks are for sale.
