Hollywood icon Susan Sarandon was among approximately 100 people arrested in New York City on Thursday during a tense demonstration against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The protest, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, took place just ahead of Netanyahu's scheduled address to the United Nations General Assembly.
Footage from Agence France-Presse captured the dramatic scene as NYPD officers led away a handcuffed Sarandon, known for her role in Thelma & Louise. Also detained was actress Hannah Einbinder, star of the hit series Hacks, who was reportedly "frog-marched" from the site.
Protesters held signs with messages such as “Stop Arming Israel” and “End the Genocide,” drawing significant police attention. A NYPD spokesperson stated that officers responded to reports of an “unscheduled demonstration” where demonstrators were blocking a major intersection, necessitating the mass arrest to restore order.
