NYC's Grand 'Homecoming of Heroes' Parade Honors Post-9/11 Veterans
New York City will host a ticker-tape parade to honor the more than 2.9 million American service members who served in Iraq and Afghanistan after 9/11. This momentous event, titled the "Homecoming of Heroes," is scheduled for July 6th and will march down the iconic "Canyon of Heroes" from the Battery to City Hall.

A Tribute to Sacrifice and Service
Mayor Eric Adams emphasized the parade's significance, stating it will be a powerful tribute to the service, sacrifice, and resilience of these veterans. The event aims to highlight their continued contributions to the city and nation. This will be the first parade of its kind in a major US city.

Sadly, over 7,000 American troops lost their lives, and tens of thousands more were injured during these conflicts. A staggering number of veterans also died by suicide following their service. The parade serves as a powerful symbol of remembrance and gratitude.

More Than Just a Parade
The "Homecoming of Heroes" is more than just a celebratory event; it's a symbol of closure, collective pride, and a demonstration of the city's commitment to its veterans and their families. Similar to past ticker-tape parades, the Downtown Alliance will create commemorative granite sidewalk plaques along the "Canyon of Heroes" to further honor these brave individuals.

This heartfelt tribute promises to be a moving and memorable event for both veterans and New Yorkers alike. Expect a sea of confetti, cheering crowds, and a powerful demonstration of gratitude for those who served.
