NYC's Groundbreaking Response to Rising Antisemitism
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced the creation of the Mayor’s Office to Combat Antisemitism, a first-of-its-kind initiative in a major US city. This bold move comes in response to alarming statistics: 54% of all hate crimes in NYC in 2024 targeted Jewish New Yorkers, a figure that climbed to 62% in the first quarter of 2025.

The office will spearhead a comprehensive effort, including:
- Establishing an inter-agency task force to monitor court cases, liaise with the Law Department, and advise on legislation.
- Ensuring city-funded entities don't tolerate antisemitism.
- Creating a commission of Jewish leaders to advise the office's work.
Moshe Davis, appointed as the office's executive director, describes the approach as a "sledgehammer approach: coordinated, unapologetic, and immediate." He previously served as a Jewish liaison in the Mayor's office and brings extensive experience in community engagement and leadership.

Mayor Adams emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting the record-high surge in antisemitic incidents nationwide in 2024 (over 9,300 cases, according to the ADL), with NYC reporting the highest number of incidents (1,437).
This new office represents a significant commitment to combating antisemitism and ensuring the safety and well-being of NYC's Jewish community.
