NYC CEO Murder: Ivy League Grad to Face Terrorism Charges
Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old with a master's degree in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania, is expected to waive extradition and return to New York City to face charges in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The Crime
Thompson, a Minnesota resident attending a shareholder conference, was shot and killed in Manhattan on December 4th. Mangione allegedly used a 3D-printed ghost gun with a suppressor. He fled the scene and was apprehended five days later in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after presenting a fake ID.
The Charges
Mangione has been indicted on numerous charges, including first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism, multiple counts of murder and weapons possession, and possession of a forged instrument. A handwritten manifesto condemning the healthcare industry, specifically mentioning UnitedHealthcare, was found in his possession.
