The Attack and Arrest

The shooting, caught on security video, appeared to be a robbery attempt. Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, 21, is in custody after being found with gunshot wounds consistent with the incident. The video shows an exchange of gunfire. Police say the suspect fired first.

Suspect's Background

Mora Nunez's criminal history includes prior arrests for domestic violence, an active warrant, and outstanding warrants for robbery and assault. He allegedly also stole guns from a pawn shop in Massachusetts.

Commissioner's Statement

NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that the agent was likely not targeted because of his profession. Mora Nunez's accomplice remains at large.

Mayor's Response

Mayor Eric Adams visited the wounded agent and said he's expected to make a full recovery. Adams also condemned Mora Nunez's violent history, stating that "In less than one year, he has inflicted violence in our city..."

This incident follows a shooting at a Border Patrol facility in Texas earlier this month.
