Launched in 2011, a week before Occupy Wall Street, the column documented the city's social changes under three mayors.
The column's final installment coincides with the upcoming mayoral election, where Zohran Mamdani, a progressive candidate whose popularity has surprised many, is projected to win.
Bellafante will now focus on broader features and essays beyond New York City. The closing of "Big City" marks the end of an era of insightful commentary on New York's social and political landscape.
