The New York Giants have made a strategic move to strengthen their defensive line, acquiring massive tackle C.J. Okoye from the Baltimore Ravens. In a clever roster maneuver, the team essentially flipped offensive guard Josh Ezeudu to the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this week, securing a 2028 seventh-round draft pick that was immediately used to land Okoye.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and 365 pounds, Okoye brings serious size to the interior defensive line. New York hopes he will slot into a rotational role alongside starters DJ Reader and Shelby Harris, providing crucial run-stopping power and depth.

Okoye’s journey to the NFL is anything but traditional. Born in Nigeria, he entered the league through the International Player Pathway Program, an initiative heavily supported by former Giants pass rusher Osi Umenyiora. Despite not playing football growing up, Okoye has shown remarkable dedication and raw athleticism. Head coach John Harbaugh, who coached him during his rookie season in Baltimore, praised his work ethic: “Had been a developmental-type guy learning the game, tremendous physical skills, hard worker, really dedicated himself over the last few years to learning the game.”

During his debut 2025 campaign with the Ravens, Okoye appeared in 13 games, recording 15 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, and a pass deflection. His transition to New York should be seamless, as Ravens defensive line coach Dennis Johnson has joined the Giants staff, ensuring Okoye has a familiar voice guiding his development.
