Fort Greene gets a new corner wine bar this week. Ibérico, a Spanish and Portuguese tapas and wine bar from the team behind nearby Colonia Verde, opens on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 258 DeKalb Ave., at the corner of Vanderbilt Avenue, according to Restaurant Hospitality News and the wine newsletter SWURL.

The bar comes from Colonia Verde's Tamy Rofe and Viridiana Escamilla, SWURL reported, with chef Felipe Donnelly creating the menu, according to the neighborhood newsletter Clinton & Greene. It takes over the space that held Dosa Royale. The idea draws on Rofe's years living in Portugal and the winemakers she got to know there, as well as Madrid's neighborhood bars.

What's on the menu

  • Tapas: traditional plates including pan con tomate, boquerones, tortilla española in the Betanzos style and rissóis de leitão, Portuguese half-moon pastries filled with roast suckling pig, according to Restaurant Hospitality News.
  • Bread: sourdough from Camila Forero, head chef of Colonia Verde's catering arm, Comparti.
  • Drinks: a wine list that is entirely Spanish and Portuguese, vermouths from around the world, sherries from Jerez and a classics-inspired cocktail list created by Alatz Ortega, formerly of The Ten Bells.

Rofe told SWURL she wanted "a convivial place offering classic yet reenergized Spanish tapas and exciting wines from the Iberian Peninsula." SWURL, which got a look inside, described a cozy room with very high ceilings, a few high-top tables and an L-shaped bar with a couple of extra seats facing the street.
