Washington Heights gets a new all-day bakery and bistro today in a space neighbors still call Coogan's. Eater New York says Boogie Bakery & Bistro opens Thursday, Oct. 15, at 4015 Broadway at West 169th Street, marking the U.S. restaurant debut of the European Boogie Lab sourdough brand under Delmonico's Hospitality Group.

What's on the menu

Eater describes a bread-first concept built around focaccia, sandwiches and sourdough pasta, with breakfast, lunch and dinner service six days a week. Sourdough is made daily by hand from flour, water and salt in an open kitchen, using a patented process tied to the Boogie Lab brand that launched in Zagreb, Croatia.

The Curious Uptowner visited while the bakery was already selling breads, focaccia sandwiches, pizzas and pastries such as salted caramel pistachio croissants and guava donuts. At that time the bistro end of the long room was furnished but still roped off, and the cocktail bar was mainly serving coffee — a soft opening ahead of today's full launch.

The Coogan's corner

The address is the former Coogan's, a longtime Washington Heights restaurant and bar at Broadway and 169th Street. Delmonico's Hospitality Group, parent of the Financial District steakhouse Delmonico's, is the operator, Eater reported. For now, the neighborhood pitch is simple: fresh sourdough from morning through dinner in a walkable Broadway storefront next to the Columbia University medical campus.
