Wildfire Smoke Returns to NYC: Hazy Skies, But Don't Worry - It's Not Dangerous

NYC Skies Clouded by Wildfire Smoke: Is it Harmful? πŸ’¨

The hazy skies are back over NYC as wildfire smoke from Canada drifts into the Northeast. Don't worry, though - the smoke is expected to be at low concentrations, meaning it won't pose a health threat to our area.

The smoke originates from fires in Central and Western Canada, primarily from Western Ontario through Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. The smoke is being transported by a persistent northwest wind, which is funneling between a high-pressure ridge in the Central U.S. and a low spinning near the Canadian Maritime Provinces.

This hazy smoke will continue to drift in and out of our area for the next several days - possibly into next week.

Air Quality Still Moderate

Despite the hazy appearance, the Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to remain in the moderate category (under 100), meaning it shouldn't impact people's health. Only when the AQI exceeds 100 might people with respiratory issues like asthma or COPD feel any effects.

So, while the skies may look a bit hazy, you can rest assured that the smoke is not harmful to your health. Enjoy the unique view!
