The events leading up to her dinner outing involved a 911 call from her assisted living facility, resulting in a hospital evaluation. According to reports, Williams had thrown a note out the window reading "Help! Wendy!!"

Williams further elaborated on her situation during interviews, stating she initiated the evaluation to seek medical attention and to fight for the termination of her guardianship, which she feels is unnecessary after more than three years. She has explicitly stated, “I need them...to get off my neck.”
