Upside-Down NYC Traffic Light: A Tribeca Tale

For months, a traffic light outside the Nancy Whiskey Pub in Tribeca has been causing quite the stir. It's been installed upside down – red light at the bottom, green at the top!

Residents and tourists alike are expressing their confusion. One resident admitted he never noticed until it was pointed out! A German tourist called it unexpected. Surprisingly, there haven't been any 311 complaints filed. One New Yorker simply shrugged and said, "Nothing surprises me anymore."

Safety Concerns:

A neuroscientist from the National Institutes of Health warned that this could be particularly confusing for people with achromatopsia (red-green color blindness), as they rely on the position, not the color, of the lights.

A Historical Parallel: A similar incident happened in Syracuse in the 1920s. A traffic light was intentionally installed upside down to stop vandalism.

The NYC DOT finally fixed the light after the issue was brought to their attention.
