Queens Hit-and-Run Leaves Pedestrian Dead, Two Women Sought
A tragic hit-and-run incident in Queens claimed the life of 56-year-old David Opiela. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning at the intersection of Kissena Boulevard and Horace Harding Expressway.
The crash involved a Honda Accord and a U-Haul truck. As the U-Haul was entering the intersection, it collided with the Accord. The impact sent both vehicles onto the sidewalk, striking Opiela who was crossing the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Honda, a 42-year-old woman, is recovering in the hospital. However, the driver and front passenger of the U-Haul, both described as barefoot women, fled the scene westbound on Kissena Boulevard. The truck was not stolen, and police are working to identify the two women.
Opiela's friends and family are devastated by his loss. They described him as a good man who was trying to overcome his struggles. They are hoping for answers and justice as police continue to investigate and search for the suspects.
