Trump's Sentencing in NYC Criminal Case to Proceed: Judge Rejects Stay Motion

Trump's January Sentencing Remains: Judge Denies Stay Motion
A New York judge has denied a motion by President-elect Donald Trump to delay his January 10th sentencing in the New York v. Trump case. This follows Trump's May 2024 conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records. The case centered around a $130,000 payment made to Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election to suppress allegations of an affair.

However, Judge Juan Merchan, who set the sentencing date earlier this month, rejected the motion. The judge's decision means the sentencing will proceed as scheduled, with Trump planning to attend virtually.
Trump's spokesman, Steven Cheung, stated the move to stop the sentencing was made to end what they called “the Manhattan D.A.’s Witch Hunt.” He went on to add that “the Supreme Court’s historic decision on Immunity, the state constitution of New York, and other established legal precedent mandate that this meritless hoax be immediately dismissed.” Cheung also said “The American People elected President Trump with an overwhelming mandate that demands an immediate end to the political weaponization of our justice system and all of the remaining Witch Hunts. We look forward to uniting our country in the new administration as President Trump makes America great again.”

Trump maintains his innocence and has denounced the case as politically motivated. The sentencing will take place on January 10th at 9:30 a.m.
