Trump Claims New York is 'In Play' Due to Migrant Crisis: 'We Think We Can'

Trump Targets New York in 2024 Bid, Blaming Migrant Crisis for Shift in Dynamics

Former President Donald Trump, during a campaign stop in New York, expressed confidence in his home state's potential to turn red in the upcoming election. He attributes this shift to the growing concerns surrounding illegal immigration, particularly the influx of migrants across the southern border.

"We're going to close our border because we have millions and millions of people pouring in from jails and prisons and mental institutions and terrorists, and we're not going to stand for it anymore," Trump stated during an interview on Fox News' "One Nation."

He specifically mentioned the impact on New York, citing "very dangerous people" and "street gangs" arriving from various countries, including the Congo and the Middle East.

Trump, who now resides in Florida, intends to vote in the Sunshine State but emphasized the importance of winning his home state, "We also want to win New York. We think we can because of what's happened with the migrant crisis."

He further highlighted the situation in other states, referencing the "Venezuelans taking over the real estate in Colorado with guns...like even our military doesn't have" in connection with the "Tren de Aragua" gang, a Venezuela-based transnational organization, which has gained national attention recently.

"So, no, we got to turn it around. We're going to turn it around fast. We have to deport all of these criminals that have been brought in, and we will," Trump declared.

While the Trump campaign declined to comment on the claims, the former president's statements highlight a key strategy for his campaign – leveraging concerns surrounding illegal immigration and border security to gain support in states traditionally considered Democratic strongholds.
