Tornado Strikes Buffalo, Leaving Damage in Its Wake
Buffalo, New York experienced a surprise tornado on Monday, leaving behind a trail of damage and prompting a response from local officials. The spiraling column was captured on video shortly before 2 p.m. as it moved from Lake Erie into the city.

The tornado, described as a waterspout that hit land, caused significant damage, including:
- Flipped cars in parking lots
- Bent street signs
- Fallen tree limbs across roads and sidewalks
- Damage to buildings including a nursing facility and a school
- Several traffic lights knocked offline
Aftermath and Assessment
After assessing the scene, the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado had touched down on Buffalo's west side. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz reported that a nursing facility was evaluating whether to relocate patients due to damage. The city's mayor, Byron Brown, also confirmed the overturned cars, damaged windows, and downed traffic lights.
This is the third reported tornado in Erie County in a month, with previous ones occurring in Eden and West Falls.
Thankfully, there were no immediate reports of injuries.
