Lewis-Martin announced her resignation on Sunday, stating her commitment to continue fighting for the city as a private citizen. Mayor Adams released a statement acknowledging her decades of service and close friendship.
Corruption Investigations
The resignation follows a September raid on Lewis-Martin's home where agents seized her electronics. Multiple agencies, including the Manhattan District Attorney's Office and the Southern District of New York (the same office that charged the mayor with bribery, solicitation, and fraud), are involved in separate investigations.
This is not the first high-profile resignation from Adams' administration. Other departures include former NYPD commissioner Edward Caban and NYC Schools Chancellor David Banks.
Lewis-Martin's Career
Lewis-Martin's career in public service began in 1983, including time as a public school teacher and roles in various campaigns. She served as Adams' chief of staff in the New York State Senate and as a senior advisor during his time as Brooklyn borough president before becoming his chief advisor in January 2022.
