Investigation and Resignation

Lewis-Martin's resignation follows an investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney's office, which seized her cellphone in September as part of a federal subpoena related to a corruption case against Adams. Reports suggest that Lewis-Martin and Adams had been estranged for several months.

Sources indicate that Lewis-Martin may be facing further investigation into her role in city contracts, raising concerns about the possibility of an indictment.

Adams's Own Legal Troubles

Mayor Adams himself is facing charges of accepting illegal donations and gifts from foreign officials, including Turkish officials. This situation led New York Governor Kathy Hochul to demand that Adams remove certain staffers from his administration. Longtime Allies

Despite the recent events, Lewis-Martin and Adams have a history of close collaboration and friendship spanning many years.
