Times Square Shooting: Three Wounded, Teen in Custody

Early Saturday morning, a shooting in Times Square left three people injured. Police took a 17-year-old boy into custody for questioning, though no charges have been filed yet.
The victims, an 18-year-old woman, a 19-year-old man, and a 65-year-old man, sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. at the intersection of 44th Street and Seventh Avenue. Initial reports suggest a verbal altercation preceded the shooting.
Videos circulating on social media depict people fleeing the scene and police responding to the wounded.
NYC Gun Violence and Laws
This incident comes amidst a significant drop in gun violence in New York City this year. The city has seen its lowest number of shootings in decades. However, the incident highlights ongoing concerns about gun safety, particularly in high-traffic areas like Times Square. New York has strict gun laws banning firearms in designated areas, including Times Square. The Supreme Court recently declined to hear a challenge against these laws.
