Step Inside Anne Frank's Secret Annex: Immersive Exhibit Coming to NYC

Step Back in Time: Anne Frank's Secret Annex Coming to NYC
The Anne Frank House Museum in Amsterdam is bringing a piece of history to New York City with a full-scale replica of the secret annex where Anne Frank hid during World War II. The exhibit, titled "Anne Frank The Exhibition", will immerse visitors in the space where Anne wrote her famous diary, offering a powerful glimpse into life under Nazi occupation.

"For the first time in history, the Anne Frank House will present what I would call a pioneering experience outside of Amsterdam," said Anne Frank House director Ronald Leopold. The exhibit will allow visitors to experience the cramped living conditions, the constant fear of discovery, and the resilience of those who lived in hiding.
The exhibit will not only showcase the annex itself but also delve into the history of the Frank family, from their early lives to Otto Frank's decision to share Anne's diary after the war. Visitors will learn about Anne as a young girl, a writer, and a symbol of strength and resilience.
"Anne Frank The Exhibition" opens at the Center for Jewish History in Manhattan on January 27th, the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This immersive experience will offer a profound look at Anne Frank's life and the enduring impact of her story.
Explore the History of the Frank Family
The secret annex was located on the second and third floors of a building in Amsterdam. The only entrance was a secret passage behind a revolving bookcase. The Frank family lived there for two years, hiding from Nazi occupiers alongside four other Jews. Anne Frank began writing her diary at the age of 13, shortly before her family went into hiding. Her diary, published in 1947, remains required reading in many schools today.
This exhibit is a powerful reminder of the importance of remembering the Holocaust and the stories of those who survived it. It's a chance to learn about Anne Frank not only as a victim but as a young girl, a writer, and a symbol of strength.
