SNL Mocks Mayor Adams' Indictment: 'You Want Your Mayor in Coach?'

SNL Takes Aim at Mayor Adams' Legal Troubles

During the season 50 premiere of “Saturday Night Live,” the “Weekend Update” segment took a playful jab at Mayor Eric Adams, who recently pleaded not guilty to federal bribery and corruption charges.

Devon Walker, portraying the beleaguered mayor, made his entrance on a chair as Michael Che brought up Adams’ indictment. Walker’s Adams, claiming innocence, emphasized his “steepled fingers,” “optimistic smile,” and “officious vocabulary,” seemingly trying to project an image of an upright and diligent leader.

The skit then delved into the mayor’s penchant for socializing, with Walker’s Adams claiming he’s been “with the working people of this city — the dancers, the bottle girls, Fat Joe,” adding a humorous jab at the city’s crime rate. The skit also referenced the bribery charges, with Walker’s Adams defending his preference for first-class travel with a witty remark: “So you want your mayor in coach, huh?… New York City needs me in first class.”

The segment concluded with a mock ad for Turkish Airlines, a playful reference to the alleged Turkish government favors in exchange for lavish trips, and a shout-out to Sean Combs, another high-profile individual facing legal troubles, ending with “Hey, free Diddy!”
