Shocking Subway Attack in NYC: Two Women Pushed onto Tracks

Two women were violently shoved onto the subway tracks at the Delancey Street/Essex Street station in Manhattan's Lower East Side. The attack occurred around 2:15 a.m. on Monday, August 5th, as the women were waiting for a northbound F train. Thankfully, police officers already at the station quickly intervened, assisting the victims and apprehending the suspect.

The Attack:

The victims, aged 27 and 28, both from Mexico, were waiting for the train when a woman approached them and without warning, pushed them onto the tracks. A bystander courageously helped the women back onto the platform.

The Suspect:

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Ebony Butts, was apprehended and charged with two counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of assault. Police reported that Butts appeared to be in emotional distress and was barefoot at the time of the attack.

Injuries and Recovery:

Both women were taken to Bellevue Hospital and treated for minor injuries. They are currently recovering from the traumatic incident.

Safety Concerns:

This alarming attack highlights the growing concern for safety in the NYC subway system. The MTA is currently running a pilot program to install barriers at select stations to protect riders from random attacks. However, this incident underscores the need for expanded safety measures across the entire system.
