This year's 74-foot Norway spruce hails from a small town in Massachusetts.
A Journey From Massachusetts to NYC
The tree's journey began in 2020 when the center's head gardener selected it. It was cut down last month and transported to Rockefeller Plaza, culminating in Wednesday night's spectacular lighting ceremony.
More Than Just Lights: A Symbol of Hope
This year's tree lighting holds special significance. It follows a tragic event – the murder of UnitedHealthcare's CEO just blocks away. Despite this, the ceremony proceeded, offering a moment of joy and unity for New Yorkers. The NYPD increased security for the event, ensuring a safe celebration.
The tree will remain on display through mid-January, lit for 24 hours on Christmas Day. After the holidays, the tree will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
