Queens Brothel Across From Two NYC Schools Sparks Outrage: Locals Demand Action

Queens Brothel Across From Schools Sparks Outrage
Residents in Jackson Heights, Queens, are demanding action after a suspected brothel was discovered operating just across the street from two public elementary schools, PS 19 and PS 307. The news comes just days after a 24-hour prostitution operation, known as the "Market of Sweethearts," was raided by the NYPD on nearby Roosevelt Avenue.

Parents and community leaders are expressing deep concern over the proximity of the brothel to the schools, fearing for the safety and well-being of children.
"No good," said neighborhood mom Maria Gonzales. "The school is just there. C’mon, no good. My husband go and say to them, ‘Not here. Too close, the ninos.’ They say, ‘OK, OK, OK.’"
The Community Education Council 24 has drafted a resolution urging city schools officials, police, and Mayor Eric Adams to work together to shut down the brothel and address other criminal activity in the area.
"This request aligns with the NYC [Department of Education’s] commitment to ensuring that all students are provided a safe and supportive environment, crucial for fostering their academic success and social-emotional growth,” the resolution states.
The brothel, which is allegedly operating out of a former bodega, has been described as a blatant example of the growing problem of migrant crime in the area. Images show wooden panels and doors built at the rear of the business, where women sit waiting for customers.
Local residents are calling for increased police presence and a crackdown on the criminal activity that has plagued Roosevelt Avenue.
"Our community is crying out for help," said Queens Democratic district leader Hiram Monserrate. "Rescue Roosevelt Avenue. Protect our children. We do not need backpack giveaways, we don’t need political rhetoric. We need more cops, counselors and a massive intervention for this community. "
"The NYPD needs to shut this brothel down now,” he added. “The Roosevelt Avenue Corridor remains lawless and unsafe.”
The NYPD has not yet responded to requests for comment.
