Prince Harry's NYC Security Beefed Up After 'Near Catastrophic' Paparazzi Chase

Prince Harry Gets Extra Security in NYC After Paparazzi Chase
Prince Harry will receive heightened security during his upcoming visit to New York City. The Duke of Sussex, who will be in town for the Diana Award event and other philanthropic work, will be celebrating his 40th birthday on September 15.
The NYPD's decision to increase security comes after a May incident where Harry, Meghan Markle, and her mother Doria Ragland were involved in a "near catastrophic" car chase by paparazzi after leaving a theater in Manhattan.
The NYPD intelligence chief wrote to London's Metropolitan Police, stating they will be "enhancing the security resources afforded to the Duke and Duchess on future visits to the city."
This incident, which saw paparazzi pursuing the royals in a reckless manner, has prompted the NYPD to take extra precautions for Harry's upcoming visit.
The Duke's visit coincides with UN General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week, making his presence in the city even more high-profile.
While Harry will be in New York, Prince William, who was scheduled to appear at the Earthshot Innovation Summit on September 24, has decided to send a video message instead.
