Prince Harry Pays Tribute to Princess Diana at NYC Panel

Prince Harry recently made a trip to New York City, where he took the opportunity to honor his late mother, Princess Diana, during a panel discussion for The Diana Award. This nonprofit organization was founded in 1997 after Diana's tragic death at age 36.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, joined Diana Award CEO Dr. Tessy Ojo and two award recipients for a conversation about the mental health challenges young people face today. Harry, who was only 12 when he lost his mother, spoke about the importance of breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health.

“I know that my mum would be incredibly proud of you guys, not just you, but all of the award winners,” Harry told the group on stage with him. “One of the reasons we are here today is mental health. The fact that it affects every single one of us from top to bottom, from the youngest to the oldest.”

He went on to encourage the young people present to continue leading the charge in breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health, emphasizing the importance of courage in creating positive change.

“The courage that you have gives me hope, because every single one of us need courage in order to really move the dial and create positive change in today’s world, probably more so now than ever.”

Prince Harry's Trip to NYC Comes Amidst Continued Family Drama

Harry's appearance at the Diana Award panel follows his attendance at several events in both California and New York. He joined a charity dinner hosted by the World Health Organization that honored survivors of childhood violence, where he mingled with Belgium’s Queen Mathilde and actor Forest Whitaker. He also attended a charity concert at Kevin Costner's beachfront estate in California, where he presented an award.

However, his trip comes amid ongoing tensions within the royal family. Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, have had a strained relationship since Harry publicly criticized the royal family in his 2021 interview with Oprah, his Netflix docuseries, and his tell-all memoir, “Spare.”

While attending a memorial service for Diana's brother-in-law, Lord Robert Fellowes, last month, the brothers came face-to-face but did not speak.

Meghan Markle's Reported Lack of Interest in Returning to the UK

Harry is scheduled to return to the UK soon to serve as the guest of honor for the WellChild Awards on September 30. However, he will reportedly be travelling alone, as his wife, Meghan Markle, has no interest in returning to the UK. The tension with her in-laws, coupled with concerns for her safety, have reportedly influenced her decision.
