Olympic Chocolate Muffins Take NYC by Storm: A Pop-Up You Won't Believe

Olympic Chocolate Muffins: A Viral Sensation Hits NYC

Remember the Olympic Village chocolate muffins that took TikTok by storm? Well, they've made their way to New York City, thanks to the determination of one designer and the willingness of a local cafe owner.

Kelin Carolyn Zhang, an independent designer, was so captivated by the viral videos of Olympic athletes raving about the “choccy muffins” that she embarked on a quest to bring them to the Big Apple. After tracking down the French supplier, Coup de pates, Zhang faced a whirlwind of challenges, including securing customs and FDA approval, and dealing with a last-minute logistical hurdle that involved a refrigerated truck too small for the muffins.

Ultimately, Zhang partnered with Isshiki Matcha, a NYC cafe specializing in premium matcha, to host a pop-up event on August 17th. The response was overwhelming, with hundreds of New Yorkers lining up as early as 6 a.m. to get their hands on the coveted muffins.

What's the hype about?

While some have questioned the frenzy over a simple muffin, Zhang believes it represented a fun way for fans to feel connected to the Olympics from afar. She describes the muffin as light, moist, and not too sweet, adding that it's a “lighthearted fun” way to feel connected to the games.

Challenges and Triumph

Zhang's journey highlights the perseverance and resourcefulness it takes to bring an idea to fruition. Despite the obstacles, her passion for the muffins and her willingness to think outside the box led to a successful pop-up event. Isshiki Matcha, a relatively new cafe, welcomed the opportunity to offer a unique experience to its customers.

Looking Forward

The duo is currently exploring the possibility of importing another batch of muffins, but for now, the experience itself is what Zhang cherishes most. As she says, "Have fun – life is short. Be a little silly."
