NYC's New Top Cop: Jessica Tisch's Plan for Safer Streets

New York City's newest Police Commissioner, Jessica Tisch, is making waves. In an exclusive interview, she declared her focus is on substance over political games, promising to shake up the status quo to improve safety for all New Yorkers.

A Focus on Substance

Tisch, formerly the Sanitation Commissioner, emphasized her commitment to practical solutions, stating, "I care less about the palace intrigue and more about the substance of the work." She recognizes the challenges, including ongoing corruption investigations, but is determined to prioritize the NYPD's core mission: keeping New Yorkers safe and improving their quality of life.

Addressing Public Perception

While crime statistics are down in recent months, Tisch acknowledges that many New Yorkers don't feel safe. She plans to address this perception gap through decisive action and impactful changes.

Experience and Vision

With a 12-year history at the NYPD as a civilian, including overseeing 911 operations, Tisch brings a wealth of experience. She also served as the city's Chief Information Officer. Her appointment is a significant one—she's only the second female NYPD Commissioner.

A Boost from City Hall?

Mayor Eric Adams' "gift" of 1,600 new police officers is a welcome addition to Tisch's efforts to bolster safety and provide support to rank-and-file officers.

What's Next?

The new commissioner, a mother of two, is ready to take charge, stating, "I want to protect New Yorkers and their kids the way I protect mine." She plans to build strong relationships with NYPD unions and work collaboratively to ensure the safety of New York City.
