NYC's Adorable New Dog Mayor

Simon, a basset cattle dog, has been sworn in as New York City's second dog mayor! The heartwarming ceremony, held outside City Hall on January 26th, saw Public Advocate Jumaane Williams officiate. Simon succeeds Sally and will serve a two-year term.

His owner, Sophie Vershbow, shared that Simon's role is primarily ceremonial, focusing on raising awareness for animal fostering and adoption. Even better, his deputy is Pepper, a mini chocolate Dachshund!

While Simon's duties are largely honorary, his cuteness is undeniable, and his appointment is a fun way to highlight important animal welfare causes in NYC.
