Unleashing Halloween Magic: The Best Costumes From NYC's Dog Parade

The streets of Manhattan's East Village were alive with the spirit of Halloween as hundreds of pups strutted their stuff at the 34th Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade. From postal workers to witches, and even a Bob look-alike from this year's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the beloved parade transformed Avenue A into a canine catwalk of pure Halloween magic.

This year, however, saw a shift in tradition. The costume contest, a beloved part of the event, was not held, and long-time organizer Joseph Borduin announced it would be his last year at the helm. He's hoping a larger entity can take over the “beast” that is the parade, as it's become too much for the small dog park to handle.

The Cutest Costumes

Let's take a look at some of the most memorable outfits:

  1. Beetlejuice Bob: This year saw the release of the highly anticipated Beetlejuice sequel. One dog captured everyone's attention with a hilarious oversized costume of the fan-favorite “Bob.”
  1. Convict Dog: Archie was a firm favorite in his jail-inspired outfit. Despite his “bad pet” label, we can't help but think he's probably a good boy at heart.
  1. Pizza Slice: No trip to New York City is complete without a nod to its most beloved food. One pup served up serious cuteness dressed as a giant pepperoni pizza slice.
  1. Austin Powers: Yeah, baby! One groovy dog channeled everyone's favorite British spy, complete with a shaggy wig and iconic glasses.
  1. Cinderella: There was no missing the ball for one princess in the parade, who showed up in a sparkling gown that matched her owner's.
  1. Spooky Spider: One small pup traded four legs for eight in a scary-yet-sweet spider costume complete with sparkling details.
  1. Postal Worker: Not a usual favorite for our canine friends, one dog donned an adorable take on the USPS worker outfit. Does this mean he has to bark at...himself?

If your dog loves to dress up and you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet, we'd love to share them. Send them to life@newsweek.com with some details about your best friend, and they could appear in our Pet of the Week lineup.
