NYC's 'Haggler After Midnight': A Serial Robber's Unusual Tactics

The NYPD is searching for a suspect nicknamed the "Haggler After Midnight" following a string of robberies in Brooklyn and Queens. This thief's unusual approach involves negotiating with his victims over their belongings.

The Suspect's Modus Operandi

The suspect, described as a white male, targets Hispanic males aged 20-40, often after midnight as they return home from work. He's been seen on a black and blue motorized scooter and a bicycle. He is reportedly armed with a knife and is becoming increasingly violent.

"He asked [one victim] if he was a construction worker, which we find very odd," said Deputy Chief John Mastronardi.

The suspect's negotiations are conducted in both English and Spanish. He is typically after cash or electronics. Surveillance footage shows him wearing a black hooded jacket with a white logo and a black balaclava.

Police Investigation

A total of 11 robberies have been reported in recent months. The NYPD's Crimes Against Persons detectives unit is investigating the case and offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.

"The emotional trauma, the fear that it creates... innocent individuals going home from work, being targeted," said Mastronardi.

The NYPD urges anyone with information to come forward. This unusual case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in keeping New York City safe.
