NYC's East River to Get a Floating Pool! But First, a Water Quality Test

NYC's East River is Getting a Floating Pool! πββοΈ
New York City is taking a dip into the future with a new floating pool in the East River. The pool will be located at Pier 35, near the Lower East Side, and is set to open in 2025.

Before opening, the city is conducting a water filtration demonstration project at Pier 35, starting this August. This project will gather data to ensure the pool's water filtration system is safe for swimmers.
Safety First: Water Quality Testing & Filtration
Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul have emphasized the importance of public safety and equitable access to swimming for all New Yorkers. This project aligns with the NY SWIMS initiative, the largest statewide investment in swimming since the New Deal.
The testing will assess water quality and evaluate additional requirements outlined by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the New York state Department of Health.
A Vision of a Swimmable East River
The project will involve state-of-the-art water filtration technology and aims to be a model for future swimming access in New York City's waterways. This project represents a vision of a cleaner, more accessible East River, where swimming is a possibility for everyone.
