Controversy Surrounding Columbus Day
While Columbus Day is celebrated in New York, the federal holiday has faced controversy in recent years due to claims that Christopher Columbus exploited and abused indigenous people. Some states have chosen to rename the holiday to Indigenous Peoples Day.
