NYC's $164 Million West Village Makeover: A New Recreation and Cultural Hub

New York City has unveiled ambitious plans to transform the Clarkson Street corridor in the West Village into a state-of-the-art recreation, cultural, and fitness center. This exciting project, boasting a $164 million budget, will span approximately 100,000 square feet and promises significant improvements to the neighborhood.

Key Features of the Project

The development includes:

• An outdoor aquatics complex at the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center, featuring a new accessible pool and pool house.
• A brand-new indoor recreation center at 388 Hudson Street, encompassing an indoor pool, a gymnasium, and flexible program spaces—a 60% increase in indoor recreational space for the area.
• Restoration of Keith Haring's iconic Carmine Street Pool mural, in collaboration with the Keith Haring Foundation.
• Creation of the Hudson-Houston Plaza, a vibrant public space offering greenery, seating, shade, and art inspired by Eduardo Kobra's "Ellis" mural.
